The Hermès Lydie is one of the maison's elegant vintage shoulder bags, celebrated for its understated silhouette and timeless Parisian sophistication. Produced in far smaller numbers than icons such as the Kelly or Constance, the Lydie has become increasingly appreciated by collectors seeking rare vintage Hermès designs with distinctive character and enduring craftsmanship.
This 1983 (M in Circle) example is crafted in the beautiful Gold (Caramel Brown) colourway with Gold Hardware, one of Hermès' most iconic and versatile combinations. Made from Courchevel leather—the predecessor to today's Epsom leather—it offers a structured silhouette with excellent durability and a refined crosshatch grain. The Gold colour in Courchevel is encountered far less frequently today, adding to its vintage appeal. Based on our inspection, the bag appears to retain its original character, although we are unable to conclusively determine whether any historical touch-ups have been performed. The interior shows expected signs of use consistent with a well-preserved vintage Hermès piece, while the exterior continues to present beautifully for its age.
Vintage Hermès bags like the Lydie are becoming increasingly difficult to source, particularly in Gold Courchevel with Gold Hardware. Courchevel leather occupies a special place in Hermès history as the predecessor to Epsom, offering collectors the opportunity to own a material no longer in production. With over four decades of history, this 1983 example represents the enduring craftsmanship of vintage Hermès—a piece that appeals to collectors who appreciate rarity, heritage, and timeless design beyond the maison's mainstream icons.
